X Collaborating with Pakistani Government to Address Concerns Regarding Ban

The social media platform X, once known as Twitter, said it’s going to talk with Pakistan’s government to understand why they’re concerned. This comes after the government banned the platform for two months, saying it was for security reasons.

The ban started on February 17, after a politician admitted to cheating in the February election and Imran Khan’s party called for protests. X’s team said they’re trying to figure out what’s worrying the Pakistani government. This is their first statement since the ban started.

A court in Sindh province told the government to bring X back online within a week. If they don’t, the court will take action. Another court in Islamabad is also looking into the ban.

The government says the ban is for national security, and it might involve intelligence agencies. Digital rights activists think the ban is just to stop people from speaking out, especially after the controversial election. People in Pakistan can sometimes access X, but it’s not consistent. Mobile services were also shut down on election day, adding to concerns about fairness.
