In Dera Bugti, Balochistan, villagers armed with weapons killed a rare leopard near Sui after discovering it in the area. The villagers chased the leopard, found it in its den, and killed it. They recorded the incident after dragging the leopard’s body out of its den.

The villagers stated they killed the leopard because it was attacking their goats. The district administration has not yet taken action regarding the killing of this endangered species. However, many people on social media have expressed sadness over the villagers’ action of killing the rare animal.

Earlier in April, another Persian leopard was found near Nani Mandir in Hinglaj, a town located in the Lasbela district of Balochistan. The leopard was discovered by a pilgrim visiting the temple within Hingol National Park along the Balochistan coast.

The Persian leopard, known locally as “phulang,” is native to Hingol National Park. These leopards are a subspecies of panther found in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and the Caucasus region. They are critically endangered according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
