A video of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik refusing to award young orphan girls in Pakistan has gone viral, igniting widespread discussion on social media. In the footage, Naik is seen abruptly leaving the stage at an event organized by the Pakistan Sweet Home Foundation, where he was invited to present awards to the girls.
As the host called the girls for recognition, Naik reacted when the announcer referred to them as “daughters.” Reports indicate that he objected to this designation, stating that it was inappropriate to call them “daughters” since they are “eligible for marriage.” He further emphasized that they should not be touched or referred to in that manner, labeling them as “non-mahrams,” a term in Islam that refers to individuals who can marry.
On a related note, Naik met with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, who praised his lectures as “insightful and impactful.” Sharif noted Naik’s significant influence among young audiences, as reported by state-run Radio Pakistan. Naik later shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he had interacted with the Prime Minister, posting a photo from their meeting.
