Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan announced that M-Tag users will receive a special discount to help reduce congestion at toll plazas.
During a Senate Standing Committee on Communications meeting led by Pervez Rasheed, Khan explained that the government is working to address traffic jams and long queues at toll plazas on motorways and highways.
Khan also noted that 42% of the country’s road network is in Balochistan, but there are no toll plazas there, which affects road repairs and improvements. In Gilgit-Baltistan, there is only one toll plaza for 900 kilometers of road.
He added that toll tax collection, which was Rs. 60 billion last year, is expected to increase to over Rs. 100 billion.
The committee was informed that Pakistan has 38 million vehicles, with 70% being motorcycles and 2.7 million being large vehicles, 70% of which are old.
