Scholarship Details
Two primary scholarships are available: the Melbourne Research Scholarship and the Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship. Both provide substantial benefits designed to alleviate financial pressures on students.
Financial Support and Fee Waivers:
Master’s by Research students can receive a full fee waiver for up to two years.
PhD students can receive a fee waiver for up to four years. – A generous living allowance of $37,000 per year is offered, with potential annual adjustments. This allowance supports Master’s students for up to two years and PhD students for up to 3.5 years, and includes paid sick leave, maternity leave, and parenting leave. – Relocation grants are available: $2,000 for students moving from other Australian states and $3,000 for international students. – International students requiring a visa will receive Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for health insurance coverage during their studies.
Fee-Only Scholarships:
Full fee waivers are available for students who do not receive a stipend, covering up to two years for Master’s by Research students and up to four years for PhD students.
Eligibility:
Candidates must be applying for or currently enrolled in a graduate research program at the University of Melbourne. All domestic students admitted to eligible programs will automatically receive the Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset).
Selection Criteria:
Scholarships that include both a stipend and fee waiver are awarded based on academic excellence. Evaluations consider recent academic performance, research potential, prior research experience, published works, and professional achievements.

Current or Deferred Students: Must submit an online application by October 31 for consideration for the following year. Notifications will be sent within ten business days after submission. – Domestic students will be informed of their Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset) with their course offer. Decisions on scholarships with stipends and fee offsets will be communicated around the same time.
