Uber Stops Using Its App in Pakistan, Will Use Subsidiary Brand Careem Instead

Uber has decided to stop using its ride-hailing app in Pakistan. Instead, they’ll use their subsidiary brand, Careem, for this service. Back in 2019, Uber bought Careem for $3.1 billion, but both companies agreed to keep their own names and operate separately.

In October 2022, Uber stopped its services in several Pakistani cities, choosing to work through Careem in five of them and continue using the Uber app only in Lahore.

Recently, Uber informed its users in Lahore via email that they’ll no longer offer their services there starting April 30. They suggested using Careem instead. If users don’t want their information shared with Careem, they can fill out a form by May 3.

For those with Uber Cash balances, Uber will provide details soon on how to get their money back. Additionally, users were offered a 50% discount on five rides with Careem.

Now, when users in Lahore try to use the Uber app, they see a message saying Uber isn’t available there anymore, but they can enjoy discounts with Careem using a specific code.
