KARACHI: The Glassworker, produced by Geo Films in collaboration with Mano Animation Studios, has been officially selected as Pakistan’s entry for the 2025 Oscars in the International Feature Film category. This landmark achievement marks the first time a hand-drawn animated film from Pakistan, featuring an anti-war narrative, has been nominated for such a prestigious honor.

Director Usman Riaz expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m honored that we’ll be competing alongside some of the finest films, proudly showcasing our craft.” When asked about the implications for the shrinking Pakistani cinema industry, he remarked, “I’m not sure what this will mean for Pakistani cinema, but I do know that I will give it my all and keep moving forward.”

Completed over ten years, *The Glassworker* is a testament to Riaz and his team’s dedication to perfecting every detail. He shared, “This recognition means more to me than I can put into words—not just for myself, but for the entire team at Mano Animation Studios, who have poured their hearts and souls into this project.”

On his Instagram, Riaz announced, “We are proud to share that *The Glassworker* has been selected as Pakistan’s submission for the International Feature Film category at the 2025 Oscars. This is a significant moment for 2D hand-drawn animation in Pakistan.” The recognition serves as encouragement to push the boundaries of storytelling and animation in the country.
