Iranian police shut down the Turkish Airlines office in Tehran after female employees reportedly refused to wear the required hijab. The semi-official Tasnim news agency said police issued a warning first, but the office was sealed when employees resisted.
The office is expected to reopen on Wednesday, though this has not been confirmed by police. Turkish Airlines has not yet commented on the incident.
The closure reflects ongoing tensions over Iran’s hijab laws, which have led to mass protests since the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022. The Iranian government has frequently shut down businesses for failing to enforce these laws.
The incident coincides with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s congratulatory call to Iran’s new President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian, who has promised to address the hijab issue. Iran and Turkey maintain strong relations, with significant trade and tourism between the two countries.
