The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has ordered the disabling of mobile phone SIM cards for over 0.5 million individuals who haven’t filed their income tax returns for the tax year 2023. The list contains 506,671 names of such individuals.
According to the FBR’s General Order, these SIM cards will remain blocked until either the FBR or the relevant Inland Revenue Commissioner restores them. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and telecom companies must ensure immediate compliance with this order.
A compliance report needs to be submitted to the FBR by May 15, 2024. The FBR, through a post on X, urged these individuals to fulfill their tax obligations promptly by filing their income tax returns for 2023. Doing so will enable them to have their mobile phone services restored in accordance with the General Order.
