Elon Musk’s SpaceX has expanded its Starlink internet service to over 300 islands in Fiji as of today.
In mid-November 2023, Starlink was granted a license to provide internet services in Fiji.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, stated that licensing Starlink for commercial use is a transformative step for Fiji. It enhances the country’s ability to maintain connectivity during natural disasters and supports the government’s initiative to connect maritime communities without significant upfront capital expenses.
Starlink’s services are in line with the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission’s objective of fostering a competitive, fair, and dynamic internet services market in Fiji.
In addition to its expansion in Fiji, SpaceX celebrated Starlink’s presence in its 99th market globally. Indonesia is the latest country to receive Starlink internet services.
Elon Musk marked the launch of Starlink in Indonesia with a visit to Bali over the weekend. He expressed his enthusiasm for bringing Starlink to Indonesia, particularly to areas with low connectivity.
Musk highlighted the focus on Starlink and the benefits it brings to remote islands through enhanced connectivity.
