SpaceX has been launching Starlink satellites directly aimed at improving cell phone connectivity since January 2024. Their latest Falcon 9 mission in June successfully deployed 20 more Starlink satellites from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

This launch marked SpaceX’s 1,000th Starlink satellite launched this year, bringing the total in orbit to over 6,600. These satellites provide high-speed internet to 79 countries worldwide. The Falcon 9 rocket’s first stage successfully landed on the droneship “Of Course I Still Love You,” achieving a turnaround time of just 26 days for booster B1078’s 11th flight.

Despite initial weather concerns, the launch proceeded smoothly, with favorable conditions and all systems working well. SpaceX highlighted the increased bandwidth and capability of its smaller V2 Mini Starlinks, which support seamless data access across different terrains without needing phone modifications or special apps.

SpaceX plans future missions, including more Starlink launches with Direct-to-Cell satellites and the Falcon Heavy launch carrying NOAA’s GOES-U weather satellite from Vandenberg Space Force Base.
