Each system is designed to power a fan, three LED bulbs
The Sindh government, in collaboration with the World Bank, is introducing an affordable solar system scheme, offering complete setups for just Rs7,000.
This initiative aims to tackle energy challenges by providing sustainable electricity solutions to households across Sindh.
Around 200,000 households, including 50,000 in Karachi, will benefit from this scheme, receiving solar systems equipped with a fan and three LED bulbs for essential lighting and ventilation.
The distribution effort will cover all districts of Sindh, with a total of 6,656 solar systems per district. The project is set to begin in October after the procurement process is completed, with solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries included in the package.
Funded by the World Bank with $32 million, the project holds potential for future expansion. Sindh is already generating 400MW of electricity from solar energy, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable power sources.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government plans to provide free solar systems to 50,000 households in the province. Aimed at reducing electricity costs for low-consumption households, the initiative is fully funded by the provincial government at an estimated cost of Rs10 billion.
Under this scheme, households using up to 100 units of electricity per month will qualify for the free solar systems, with the government covering all expenses, including the cost of the systems and installation.
