Sindh’s Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, has pledged significant relief measures for government employees in the forthcoming provincial budget for 2024-25.
During a meeting, Ghani disclosed that the upcoming budget would prioritize the timely disbursement of salaries and pensions to municipal agency employees, both current and retired, throughout Sindh.
Ghani affirmed that the OZT (Octroi Zila Tax) share designated for union councils and town committees would be augmented to accommodate the escalating recurring expenses confronted by these municipal agencies.
He directed all regional directors of the Sindh Local Government Department to compile and submit rosters of serving and retired union council employees and town committee members who receive salaries and pensions within their respective jurisdictions to the provincial authorities.
Saeed Ghani emphasized that this data would be vital in ensuring provisions in the forthcoming provincial budget to safeguard the salaries and pensions of municipal staff in Sindh.
He also underscored the importance for the provincial government to procure updated information on the count of serving and retired municipal employees, along with detailed expenditures of union and town committees.
He highlighted that having this data available expeditiously would facilitate ensuring that the upcoming provincial budget includes adequate funds for salary and pension payments to municipal staff, as well as for increasing the OZT share allocated to union and town committees.
