The Sindh Government plans to launch Pakistan’s first electric vehicle (EV) taxis, including a special pink version, according to Minister Sharjeel Memon.
This move is aimed at tackling Karachi’s severe air pollution, which is mainly due to the high number of gasoline-powered vehicles and limited public transport options.
Although the exact launch date is not yet set, the new EV taxis are expected to offer a more affordable travel option, especially with rising fuel costs and expensive ride-hailing fares.
This initiative supports global efforts to promote eco-friendly transportation. Recently, Karachi added 30 hybrid and 50 electric buses to its public transport fleet, with plans to expand it to 300 vehicles. These measures show a commitment to reducing pollution and enhancing sustainable transport in the city.
