Sindh’s Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has given the green light for an additional Rs520 million to be allocated towards the construction of a new pediatric unit at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD). This decision came during the 82nd governing body meeting of the institute, held at the CM House on Wednesday.

Key attendees included Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and other officials. The aim is to address the growing demand for pediatric cardiac care by activating two floors of the pediatric building next year. The project, initiated in 2016-17, will now receive extra funds to hasten its completion.

In the meeting, it was disclosed that Rs628.3 million had been set aside for MRI machines in the current fiscal year to bolster the NICVD’s stroke intervention program. Dr. Tahir Saghir, the newly appointed Executive Director of NICVD, suggested a budget increase for the upcoming fiscal year due to rising costs and expenses.

The Chief Minister instructed Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho and Secretary Finance Fayaz Jatoi to assess the NICVD’s financial requirements and provide recommendations. Additionally, he urged NICVD to develop a detailed patient treatment tracking system to monitor all medical expenditures, tests, procedures, and prescribed medications.
