Senior Journalist Hamid Mir Challenges Internet Firewall Installation in Islamabad High Court

Senior journalist Hamid Mir has taken legal action against the recent internet slowdown and the proposed installation of a new firewall by filing a petition with the Islamabad High Court.

Represented by lawyer Imaan Mazari, Mir’s petition targets the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry for Human Rights. He argues that the firewall installation should be halted until there is proper consultation with stakeholders and measures are put in place to protect fundamental rights.

Mir’s petition asserts that access to the internet is essential for earning a living and should be recognized as a fundamental human right. It also requests that authorities provide a comprehensive report detailing the potential impact of the new firewall on internet access and users.
