Today, Pakistan observes Chehlum, the 40th day of mourning for Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala, with deep reverence and solemnity. Processions are being held nationwide, accompanied by rigorous security measures.

Karachi Under Lockdown

In Karachi, the main Chehlum procession will start at Nishtar Park and end at the Husainia Iranian Imambargah in Khara Dar. To ensure safety, M.A. Jinnah Road, from Guru Mandar to Tower, has been closed to traffic. Mobile phone services in the city have been suspended from early morning until late evening. Additionally, the Sindh government has prohibited motorcycle pillion riding and the use of drone cameras throughout the province.

Punjab on High Alert

In Punjab, 30,000 police officers have been deployed to secure 382 processions and gatherings. The primary procession in Lahore will commence from Haveli Alf Shah at Delhi Gate. Security measures include heightened alert status in all major cities, road closures in key areas like Karachi’s M.A. Jinnah Road, mobile service suspensions, aerial surveillance of processions, and increased deployment of police and Rangers personnel. Additional CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the events closely.

The stringent security protocols highlight the importance of the occasion and the commitment to ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of the Chehlum observances.
