The second edition of the Sindh Premier League (SPL) cricket tournament is set to take place in Qatar, according to sources within the league’s delegation.
With the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari, the Sindh government has given its in-principle consent for hosting the event abroad. Last week, the league’s delegation met with both President Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to finalize the details.
The SPL’s delegation, which previously organized two seasons of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL), is now embarking on its second venture in Pakistani domestic T20 cricket.
Although the delegation had expressed a strong preference for Qatar as the venue, the Sindh government had initially proposed hosting the matches in Karachi and Hyderabad. In a follow-up meeting, Sindh’s Minister for Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Meher, reaffirmed the provincial government’s stance on the matter.
