A schoolboy had a lucky escape after falling 60ft off a cliff during a school trip and walking away without serious injuries.
The 15-year-old tumbled from Old Harry Rocks in Studland, Dorset, while his friends watched in horror, according to UK media reports.
Rescue officials arrived at the scene and were amazed to find the boy “virtually uninjured.”
Authorities said the boy landed on a shingle bed at the bottom of the cliffs. He sustained minor scratches on his head and back but was able to stand up and walk towards the shore.
An ambulance crew checked him and confirmed he didn’t need to go to the hospital.
A coastguard official said the boy had ignored warning signs to stay away from the cliff edge. He was posing for a photo when he fell.
“The 15-year-old boy was on a school trip from London doing a geography field study. Despite being advised to stay away from the edge, he wanted a picture of himself next to it,” said coastguard official Ian Brown. “His friend was about to take the photo when he fell over the edge.”
In a separate incident in April, a seven-month-old baby in Chennai, India, was rescued after falling from the fourth floor to the second floor of an apartment building. Onlookers managed to save the infant by catching her on a tin roof and coordinating a successful rescue.
