Islamabad: A recent report highlights a troubling trend in Pakistan, revealing that medicine prices have surged by 14.15 percent. This increase has put significant strain on healthcare affordability across the country,

The findings show that healthcare facilities have become 15.22 percent more expensive, making it increasingly challenging for individuals to access necessary medical treatments. In addition, doctor’s fees have jumped by 18.76 percent over the past year, further escalating the financial burden on patients.

In just September alone, medicine prices rose by 1.66 percent. Other healthcare services have also seen steep price hikes: dental services have increased by 29.47 percent, while medical tests have become 7.32 percent more costly.

Overall, the cost of medical facilities has surged by 17.12 percent in the past year, complicating access to healthcare services for many.

The report also sheds light on broader economic challenges, noting a 9.58 percent increase in education costs, alongside a staggering 168.79 percent hike in car taxes. Textbooks and stationery have also seen price increases of 5.75 percent and 7.71 percent, respectively.

In May, concerns were raised about potential exponential increases in medicine prices following the introduction of a sales tax of up to 18 percent, which appears to be impacting costs significantly.
