Intermittent rainfall has provided much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave in various parts of Lahore and surrounding cities. Areas such as Gulberg, Cantt, Saddar, Model Town, and Ferozepur Road experienced a mix of light and heavy showers. The Met Department forecasts cloudy weather for the day, with a thunderstorm expected tomorrow.
In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the rain has significantly cooled the atmosphere, with the highest recorded rainfall of 43mm at Saidpur Road. Concerns about flooding have arisen as the water level in Nullah Leh has reached 11 feet at Gawalmandi. The Met Office predicts continued rain in the coming days, particularly in northern regions.
Other cities like Jhelum reported rain accompanied by gusty winds, leading to water accumulation in low-lying areas and challenges for traders in the main bazaar. Heavy rain also affected Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, and Wazirabad, causing pleasant weather but resulting in power outages in several locations.
In Mianwali, heavy downpours broke the heatwave, although there are fears of flooding in lower areas. The Met Department has also forecast more intermittent rain over the next 12 hours in Narowal, with temperatures cooling across the region.
Despite some disruptions, including power outages and waterlogging, the rains have brought relief to millions affected by high heat and humidity. Authorities advise residents to exercise caution on slippery roads, and the Motorway Police have issued warnings for careful driving during wet conditions.
