The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned the Lahore High Court about a severe heatwave expected next week in the province, with temperatures likely to exceed 50 degrees Celsius.
During a Friday hearing on smog and environmental pollution, a PDMA representative informed the court about the upcoming intense heatwave. The official noted that the heatwave would be particularly severe and would negatively impact plants and trees.
Justice Shahid Karim expressed concern over the forecasted heatwave. He instructed the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) to take steps to maintain all public parks in Lahore and to create a policy for park restoration with financial help from local residents.
A lawyer for the Central Business District (CBD) reported that two tanks had been built to store rainwater. Justice Karim emphasized the need for more measures to conserve rainwater.
He also mentioned that the court would extend market hours before Eidul Azha, with an official order expected at the next hearing, which is scheduled for June 7.
