The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued urgent flood warnings as the region continues to experience heavy monsoon rainfall, with predictions indicating that the rains will persist until August 14. Significant rainfall has been recorded across various districts, intensifying concerns about rising water levels in rivers, dams, and streams.

In the past 24 hours, districts like Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Kasur, and Sheikhupura have seen substantial rainfall, with Rawalpindi receiving 88mm, and Gujranwala and Bahawalnagar recording 17mm each. The continuous downpour is causing an alarming rise in water levels, particularly in the Indus River, where a moderate flood situation is anticipated in the coming days.

The PDMA has issued specific warnings for the Indus River in Rajanpur, urging residents to evacuate to safer locations along with their livestock. The district administration has been directed to keep all relevant departments on high alert, while Rescue 1122 teams have been instructed to remain vigilant in the affected areas.

Additionally, there are concerns about potential flooding in Rojhan due to ongoing mining activities, further emphasizing the need for preparedness as the monsoon season progresses. The PDMA’s warnings underscore the critical importance of safety measures and readiness to mitigate the impact of possible floods during this period of heightened risk.
