In a significant move, the Punjab government has greenlit the hiring of 7,354 College Teaching Interns (CTIs) throughout the province. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Alongside the recruitment, the cabinet approved a special allowance for police personnel serving in the challenging Katcha area. They also allocated Rs500 million for an “Endowment Fund for Writers’ Welfare” under the information and culture department, highlighting a commitment to supporting the arts.

In a progressive step, a special court for persons with disabilities was sanctioned under the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act. The cabinet granted conditional approval to delegate sub-registrar powers to tehsildars and naib tehsildars, streamlining administrative processes.

The Chief Minister urged the Board of Revenue to develop a comprehensive five-year housing policy. Other approvals included the integration of Lahore Knowledge Park into the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority and the appointment of new members to the Gujranwala Development Authority.

Additionally, the cabinet endorsed the delegation of sub-registrar powers to legal land transferees and made amendments to the government land exchange policy for housing schemes. They also approved funding reallocations for upgrading tertiary care hospitals within the specialized healthcare sector.

A notable amendment allows assistant directors in local government to chair conciliation councils under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance of 1961.

To ensure transparency in the recruitment of CTIs, a “central portal” will be established. The cabinet also approved amendments to the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess Act 2015 and delegated leave and pension authority to district health and education CEOs.

What are your thoughts on this initiative to enhance education in Punjab? How do you think these changes will impact local communities?
