Pakistan’s telecom authority, PTA, denies suggesting a total ban on the popular social media platform, X. Earlier, there were reports that PTA, along with law enforcement agencies, recommended the ban due to X not following Pakistani laws.
However, a PTA spokesperson clarified that they haven’t proposed such a ban. The spokesperson stated that there have been no talks about a complete ban with the Ministry of Interior or any other institution.
This clarification follows media reports claiming X was banned in Pakistan, which the PTA confirmed as untrue. Currently, social media platforms are temporarily banned in Pakistan pending a review of their compliance with local laws.
The government’s response to the Islamabad High Court stated that X was banned for not adhering to these laws.
