PTA Launches Nationwide Campaign to Tackle Anti-State Online Content

Sep 9, 2024

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has rolled out a nationwide initiative aimed at enhancing internet and social media safety for citizens. This campaign seeks to enlist public assistance in curbing the spread of harmful and anti-state content online.

The PTA is urging users to practice responsible behavior on digital platforms, underscoring that sharing or uploading content that threatens national defense, integrity, or security is both illegal and subject to legal penalties.

Citizens are encouraged to report any anti-state material they encounter on the internet or social media to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for investigation. Additionally, reports should be filed with the relevant social media platforms and the PTA to ensure swift action, including blocking and removal of such content.

Under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), disseminating hateful material through any information system or device is considered a criminal offense. This includes content that incites inter-religious, communal, or racial hatred, all of which are punishable under the law.
