To improve cybersecurity and control false propaganda on social media, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is installing advanced firewalls across internet service providers.

The PTA has announced a tender for next-generation firewalls and web application firewalls (WAFs) to be set up over the next five years. The firewalls, sourced from China, will come with hardware warranties for quick repairs and support. They will block misinformation and ensure high security.

Key Details:

  • Next-Generation Firewalls (Lot A): Include advanced threat prevention, URL filtering, application control, and VPN services. They will also have deep packet inspection and intrusion prevention systems.
  • Web Application Firewalls (Lot B): Will monitor and filter HTTP traffic, featuring advanced load-balancing and protection against cyber threats like SQL injection and cross-site scripting.

The PTA is accepting bids until July 26 through the EPADS System. The cost will be shared between internet service providers and the government. For more details, visit the PTA’s official procurement portal.
