According to sources reported by ARY News, the federal government has proposed a substantial 357% increase in the budget for the IT sector in 2024-25.
In the development budget, the Ministry of IT is slated to receive Rs 27.43 billion, with Rs 6.28 billion earmarked for 15 new projects. Additionally, Rs 21.15 billion is proposed for ongoing projects, while Rs 3.5 billion is designated for the Digital Economy initiative.
Other notable allocations include Rs 1 billion for IT industry innovation, Rs 50 million for digitalizing the national assembly, and Rs 300 million for smart office projects in government departments.
Furthermore, the government has proposed Rs 9.92 billion for the Islamabad Technology Development Park and Rs 6.78 billion for establishing an IT park in Karachi. Additionally, there’s a proposal for Rs 1 billion for the Cybersecurity Fund under the Digital Pakistan project.
In a separate announcement, the federal government disclosed a significant increase in the budget allocation for education. The Planning Commission revealed that the education sector has been allocated a substantial Rs 20.25 billion for the budget 2024-25.
Originally slated for June 10, the budget presentation is now expected on June 12. The Pakistan Economic Survey 2023-24 will be presented on June 11 after a council meeting on June 10, as per sources.
