President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan has honored Prince Rahim Aga Khan with the prestigious Nishan-e-Pakistan award.

The distinguished ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Islamabad, graced by various eminent figures and dignitaries.

The accolade was bestowed upon Prince Rahim in acknowledgment of his visionary leadership, which has spearheaded transformative initiatives across multiple sectors in Pakistan.

Through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Prince Rahim has played a pivotal role in enhancing commercial banking, microfinance, insurance, sustainable tourism, and renewable energy sectors. His endeavors have significantly contributed to economic development and environmental stewardship, addressing challenges such as climate change.

The Aga Khan family has historically played a crucial role in shaping the destiny of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent. Prince Rahim’s grandfather, Aga Khan III, was instrumental in the founding of the All India Muslim League in 1906. The family’s ongoing commitment to Pakistan’s welfare continues through Prince Rahim’s dedicated efforts.

Building upon his family’s legacy, Prince Rahim has dedicated over a quarter of a century to improving the lives of people in resource-constrained regions of Asia and Africa. His leadership within AKDN has positively impacted economic development, health, education, and cultural well-being, particularly for marginalized communities.

Under Prince Rahim’s stewardship, the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development has facilitated access to financial services for nearly 50 million people in Pakistan. Additionally, as founding chairman of AKDN’s Climate and Environment Committee, he has championed environmental stewardship to address climate change challenges.

This prestigious award recognizes Prince Rahim Aga Khan’s significant and lasting contributions to Pakistan’s socioeconomic landscape.
