Gang Arrested for Honey-Trapping Khalilur Rehman Qamar
Lahore police have arrested a 12-member gang, including a woman, involved in honey-trapping the well-known playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar. The gang was found with modern weapons, large amounts of money, and mobile phones. Police are now looking for other potential victims of this group.
Kidnapping and Extortion
The gang kidnapped Qamar by pretending to offer a scriptwriting job, demanded a Rs10 million ransom, and deleted data from his phone to hide their tracks. They had targeted other high-profile individuals as well.
Details of the Crime
At a press conference on Monday, DIG Imran Kishwar explained that the gang had carefully planned their crime. They contacted Qamar on July 15 under the guise of discussing a drama script. Amna Urooj, the main conspirator, had been communicating with Qamar for 10 to 15 days before luring him to her home.
Once at her residence, Qamar was kidnapped by armed men, who demanded the ransom and withdrew money from his ATM card. They also erased all the data from his phone.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Police recovered Qamar’s phone data, identified and arrested 12 suspects, including Amna. Two more gang members are still wanted, and two additional victims have been identified. Modern weapons were also seized from the suspects.
Statement from Amna Urooj
Amna Urooj, the central suspect, admitted to the police that she had been in contact with Qamar and invited him to her home. She is accused of duping other high-profile individuals and extorting large sums of money. The investigation is ongoing.
