Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs. 50 billion relief package for electricity customers who use up to 200 units per month.
At an energy sector reform ceremony in Islamabad, he said that 25 million domestic consumers—94% of all domestic users—will benefit from this package for July, August, and September.
The relief will reduce electricity costs by Rs. 4 to 7 per unit, and K-Electric customers will also receive this subsidy.
The decision comes in response to rising electricity prices, aiming to help people cope with the high costs during the hot summer months. Once the weather cools in October, electricity use is expected to decrease.
