KARACHI: On Thursday, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by Rs 0.5 against the US dollar (USD) in interbank trading, closing at Rs 278.68 compared to the previous day’s Rs 278.73.

Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath, the prime minister’s coordinator, expressed optimism about the positive impact of this advanced technology on patient care. He also highlighted the potential for boosting medical tourism and creating international career opportunities for local healthcare professionals.

Earlier this year, King Edward Medical University (KEMU) proposed a similar project to the Punjab Health Department for Mayo Hospital, which could make it the first public teaching hospital in the province to offer robotic surgery. Meanwhile, the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) in Karachi has been a pioneer in robotic surgery, having performed over 1,500 urology-related procedures since 2012.
