Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is gearing up to restart direct flights to the United Kingdom from August 14, a significant development after a four-year hiatus.
This announcement brings relief to Pakistanis in the UK and Europe, offering them convenient and direct connections to their home country.
A PIA spokesperson expressed hope for phased approval from the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) this month. In a recent meeting with the Council of Economics and Energy Journalists, the spokesperson outlined plans to expand operations.
Once approval is granted, PIA will resume services to Paris next month, with repair work on its 777 aircraft fleet underway to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational readiness for European and UK routes.
Currently, PIA operates seven 777 aircraft, with two more planned to join the fleet within the next two months.
PIA has air service agreements with 97 countries, facilitating seamless travel and trade links worldwide.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s review board regarding the lifting of the ban on European flights of Pakistani airlines, including PIA, is scheduled for May 14.
A high-level delegation led by the aviation secretary will participate in the meeting in Brussels, where reports on audits of civil aviation sectors and PIA will be presented. The Civil Aviation Authority has also passed the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Universal Aviation Security Audit.
The CAA has achieved success in key areas assessed by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, raising hopes for the lifting of the ban on Pakistani airlines, according to aviation sources.
