The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested Rauf Sohail, who allegedly used a fake degree during his 17 years working at Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Sohail, who was hired as a cargo assistant, lost his job in 2020 when his fraudulent documents were discovered. The FIA took action after PIA requested it, leading to the cancellation of Sohail’s bail. He had worked at PIA for nearly two decades before his fake credentials were exposed.
The FIA is currently investigating the case further. This arrest comes amid a broader issue at PIA, where many employees were found to have fake degrees. In 2020, over a hundred pilots were grounded for having invalid licenses. The aviation minister at the time revealed that several pilots had fake licenses or had cheated on exams, following a report that attributed a PIA crash, which killed 97 people, to human error by the pilot and air traffic control.
