ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) faced significant disruptions on Thursday as several flights were cancelled and numerous international flights experienced delays. The cancellations were attributed to a shortage of available aircraft and ongoing maintenance issues.
Among the affected flights were two international services from Karachi and Lahore to Jeddah—specifically, flight PK-832 from Karachi and PK-960 from Lahore. Additionally, a domestic flight from Karachi to Lahore was grounded, contributing to the broader impact on air travel.
The disruptions extended beyond PIA, with the arrival and departure of 26 international flights across various Pakistani airports facing notable delays.
This upheaval follows PIA’s recent announcement of a 30% fare reduction for flights between Karachi and Jeddah or Madinah. The promotional fares, intended to make travel more economical, offer one-way tickets at Rs56,000 and round-trip tickets at Rs88,000, inclusive of taxes. The discounted tickets are available for purchase until August 31, with travel valid through September 30.
