A female Pakistan International Airlines flight attendant has been placed on judicial remand after being caught smuggling foreign currency at an airport in Punjab. Customs officials detained her on Friday after discovering a large amount of Saudi riyals hidden in her socks during a body search.

A video of the incident, showing the flight attendant removing the currency, has gone viral on social media.

Customs officials registered an FIR against her after she was stopped while boarding PIA flight PK 203 from Lahore to Dubai. According to Raja Bilal Naseem, the deputy collector at Allama Iqbal International Airport, she had 140,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately 10.4 million rupees) in her possession.

The flight attendant is charged under Section 139 of The Customs Act, 1969, which penalizes the smuggling of currency and valuables. A PIA spokesman stated that if she is convicted, she will be dismissed immediately.
