In a tragic incident in Qissa Khwani Bazar, Peshawar, Sheikh Adnan, a local shopkeeper, was fatally shot by his former apprentice, Mukhtar. The attack appears to have been influenced by Mukhtar’s exposure to violent content on TikTok and Pashto films.
Mukhtar, who had worked for Adnan for a decade, began exhibiting troubling behavior in recent times. His fascination with violent media led to frequent altercations and disruptions in his community. Concerned by these changes, Sheikh Adnan dismissed Mukhtar from his apprenticeship six months ago, a decision that left the young man harboring deep resentment.
Recent reports indicate that Mukhtar had been persistently visiting Adnan’s shop, pleading for his reinstatement. With Adnan having already hired a replacement, Mukhtar’s frustration escalated into violence. In a moment of rage, he pulled out a pistol and shot Adnan. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Adnan succumbed to his injuries after a 24-hour battle for life.
Local authorities have arrested Mukhtar and launched a formal investigation into the incident, with an FIR filed at Kabuli Police Station. The community is grappling with the shock of this violence, and police in Peshawar are expressing growing concerns about the harmful impact of TikTok on young people. Officials note that recent crimes in the city, including three fatalities, have been linked to issues stemming from the use of the platform.
