The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued a warning for a new spell of monsoon rains expected to impact various regions across the province starting August 25.

Forecast and Affected Areas

The PDMA spokesperson indicated that this period of rain is anticipated to last until August 29, bringing widespread precipitation to several divisions, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur.

Flash Flooding Warning

The PDMA has highlighted the risk of potential flash floods in the DG Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions, particularly due to heavy rainfall in the mountainous regions of Koh-e-Sulaiman and the Kirthar range. The spokesperson warned that these conditions could lead to significant flooding in mountain streams.

Precautionary Measures

In response to these warnings, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has advised district administrations, rescue services, civil defense, and other relevant departments to implement special precautionary measures, particularly in preparation for the Karbala martyrs’ chehlum.

He also urged the public to avoid organizing events on unstable rooftops or in deteriorating buildings, which could pose additional risks during the anticipated heavy rains.
