Passport Offices Face New Issue: Out of Ink

By

Jul 19, 2024

The Passport and Immigration office is facing a new problem: they have run out of ink.

Sources say that without ink, the office cannot print normal or urgent passports. This adds to an existing issue with lamination paper, which had already delayed passport printing.

The situation is getting worse due to mismanagement by the department’s leaders, who are also planning to change the Directorate of Passport and Immigration into an authority. This move would give the director general more control, including over the budget.

Instead of addressing the ink and lamination paper shortages, the office spent about Rs. 60 million on renovations. This mismanagement has led to delays in delivering passports on time for both normal and urgent requests.

Overseas Pakistanis recently complained to the interior minister about passport delays during his visit to London. In response, the minister directed the passport office to speed up services for overseas Pakistanis.
