3. Global Concerns The Mpox virus has already led to 14,000 confirmed cases in Africa. The recent cases in Europe highlight the virus’s expanding reach and the need for global vigilance.
4. Death Toll and Fatality Rate The World Health Organization (WHO) reports 524 deaths due to Mpox this year, indicating a fatality rate of approximately 3.87%, or about 1 in 26 cases.
5. Transmission and Symptoms Mpox, a member of the smallpox family, spreads through direct contact with infected animals or contaminated materials. Symptoms in milder cases include fever, chills, and body aches, while severe cases may lead to skin lesions, sores, and ulcers.
