Pakistan Railways is gradually switching to solar power for its stations, offices, workshops, and factories. The goal is to save a significant amount of money, with the first phase alone expected to reduce costs by Rs. 1.8 billion.

In this initial phase, 99 sites, including major train stations and divisional headquarters, will be powered by solar energy. NESPAK, a well-known engineering consulting firm, is helping manage the project.

The primary aims are to lessen the financial burden on Pakistan Railways and to promote sustainable energy use.

By adopting solar power, Pakistan Railways intends to address economic challenges like rising energy costs and budget constraints. This move is part of a broader strategy to make operations more environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

Overall, this initiative aims to improve the financial health and sustainability of Pakistan Railways, ensuring better service to the public in an efficient and responsible manner.
