Pakistan invites PM Modi in October

Pakistan has officially invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the upcoming CHG (Council of Heads of Government) meeting scheduled for October 15-16. Despite the invitation, it appears unlikely that Modi will make the trip to Islamabad given the ongoing strained relations between the two countries. There is, however, a possibility that India might send a ministerial representative, as has been customary in past events.

Pakistan currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the CHG, the second most crucial decision-making body within the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation). Traditionally, India has participated in these meetings by delegating a minister, with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar representing India at last year’s CHG meeting in Bishkek.

Whether leaders unable to attend in person will have the option to join virtually remains unclear. Both India and Pakistan are full members of the SCO, which is led by Russia and China and plays a significant role in regional security and collaboration with Central Asian nations.
