Since the bilateral trade suspension in August 2019, Pakistan has restricted its imports from India to only life-saving medicines. During the financial year 2023-24, Pakistan imported $278 million worth of goods from India, but its exports to India remained at zero dollars for the fourth consecutive year.
In FY22, Pakistan’s imports from India reached $352 million, but this figure dropped sharply to $27.6 million in FY23. Before the suspension, from FY13 to FY19, Pakistan’s exports to India averaged $300 million annually, while imports totaled $1.5 billion.
The trade suspension was triggered by India’s decision to revoke Article 370, which granted special status to occupied Kashmir. Since then, official trade between the two nations has been halted, and Pakistan also ceased the appointment of a Trade and Investment Officer (TIO) at its Trade Mission in India.
