Pakistan Declares National Day of Mourning for President Raisi's Passing
The Pakistani flag will fly at half-mast following the confirmation of President Ebrahim Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash, along with several senior officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared a day of mourning to honor their memory, expressing condolences and solidarity with Iran.
President Raisi, Foreign Minister Abdollahian, and other officials were returning from the inauguration of a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when the helicopter crashed in foggy mountainous terrain in East Azerbaijan province. A search and rescue operation located the wreckage on Monday.
President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also expressed profound grief and extended condolences to Iran. President Raisi, who visited Pakistan in April, had discussions to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, connectivity, energy, and people-to-people contacts. His commitment to strengthening relations between the two countries will be remembered fondly.
