LAHORE: Pakistani police have arrested and charged Farhan Asif, a 32-year-old freelance web developer, with cyberterrorism for his alleged role in spreading misinformation that incited riots in the UK earlier this month, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The charges stem from Asif’s alleged dissemination of false information via YouTube and Facebook regarding a teenage suspect involved in a tragic stabbing attack on July 29. The attack, which occurred at a dance class in Northwest England, resulted in the deaths of three girls and injuries to ten others.

Imran Kishwar, Deputy Inspector General of Investigations in Lahore, revealed that Asif is accused of using social media platforms to spread misleading details about the suspect, which fueled widespread unrest and riots in the UK. This case highlights the increasing concerns over the impact of online misinformation on global events.
