During Tesla’s shareholder meeting in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, Elon Musk appeared particularly pleased, likely due to his recent victory in a $45 billion pay package dispute. However, the most captivating part of Musk’s presentation was his discussion on the Optimus robot, where he laid out a series of ambitious promises.
Musk described the robot as a versatile companion for home use, capable of babysitting children, teaching, and performing various factory tasks. He likened it to having a personal robot similar to characters from the Star Wars franchise, suggesting that the Optimus robot would be a desirable addition for everyone.
Musk first introduced the Optimus robot concept in 2021, famously unveiling it with a person dressed in a robot costume. Since then, the robot has made significant progress, including achieving the ability to walk on two legs, a notable milestone for a concept that started as an idea.
Despite these advancements, Musk acknowledged that the robot still has some way to go before it can compete with other major players in the field. Public footage of Optimus demonstrates its capabilities but also highlights areas where it still lags behind competitors.
