Muharram Processions: Essential Information on Karachi's Traffic Plan

Traffic Restrictions

MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Guru Mandir to Tower. The main procession will start at Nishtar Park and end in Kharadar.

Traffic Diversion Plan

The Karachi Traffic Police has issued a traffic diversion plan for Muharram processions from 8th to 10th Muharram. The city sees thousands of mourners each year, necessitating detailed security measures, including street closures.

Ashura Security Measures

On Ashura, July 17th, the Sindh government banned 143 religious leaders from 13 districts for 60 days as part of the security measures.

Road Closures

During the processions, MA Jinnah Road will be closed to traffic from Guru Mandir to Tower, with access only for vehicles with permits. Traffic will be diverted at Guru Mandir towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road.

District-Specific Diversions

District Central:

  • Traffic from Nazimabad will move towards Nishtar Road and Garden via Lasbela Chowk.
  • Vehicles from Liaquatabad will go to Lasbela Chowk via Teen Hatti.

District East:

  • Traffic towards Naumaish Chowrangi from Sharea Faisal will use Kashmir Road.
  • Vehicles from Central Jail to Guru Mandir will use Bahadur Yar Jung Road.

District South:

  • Traffic from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road will use routes via Ankle Saria, Gul Plaza, and Coast Guards.

Heavy Traffic

Heavy traffic from Super Highway and Gulberg will be diverted via Liaquatabad and Nazimabad. Traffic from the National Highway will use Sharea Faisal and other main roads to reach the city.

Participant Routes

Participants from Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal will join the procession via designated routes. Vehicles for Sabeel or Niaz will enter via Tower and Memon Mosque.

Parking Restrictions

No vehicles will be allowed to park on the procession route.
