Muhammad Yousuf has stepped down from his role as national selector for the Pakistan cricket team, citing personal reasons following the team’s poor performance in the recent T20 World Cup in the US.
Yousuf, who had been involved with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in various capacities since last year, was part of a restructured selection committee that included former players, coaches, and analysts. In a post on X, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket.
However, sources indicate that Yousuf faced ongoing criticism from the media and social platforms, which contributed to his decision to resign. “He felt it would be best to focus on coaching instead,” the source revealed.
Despite stepping down as selector, Yousuf will remain with the PCB as a batting coach at the high-performance center. Following the disappointing World Cup, the selection committee underwent significant changes, with former players Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq being dismissed, while Yousuf and Asad Shafiq retained their positions.
In his farewell message, Yousuf expressed confidence in the team’s talent, wishing them success as they aim for greatness.
