A global tech outage stemming from a software update by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike impacted nearly 8.5 million Microsoft devices, according to a blog post by Microsoft on Saturday.

“We currently estimate that CrowdStrike’s update affected 8.5 million Windows devices, or less than one percent of all Windows machines,” Microsoft stated.

To address the issue, CrowdStrike has developed a scalable solution to expedite a fix for Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure. Microsoft also collaborated with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to implement the most effective solutions.

The IT outage caused widespread disruptions, affecting numerous industries, including air travel, where passengers faced delays, flight cancellations, and check-in issues, as well as sectors like banking and media.
