Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has launched **Movie Gen**, an innovative tool that harnesses artificial intelligence to generate realistic video clips.
This cutting-edge tool uses text prompts to create **16-second videos** accompanied by synchronized AI-generated audio. In an exciting twist, Movie Gen can also produce personalized videos from just a single photo.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, showcased Movie Gen by sharing a video of himself performing leg presses, dressed as a Roman centurion, on Instagram. He quipped, “Every day is leg day with Meta’s new Movie Gen AI model that can create and edit videos. Coming to Instagram next year.”
Currently, Movie Gen is undergoing testing before its public launch. A spokesperson for Meta emphasized that while the tool is still in the AI research phase, it plays a crucial role in developing features that allow users to create and share engaging content on Facebook and Instagram.
Movie Gen’s audio generation capabilities can produce “high-quality and high-fidelity audio” for videos, up to 45 seconds long. This includes ambient sounds, sound effects, and instrumental music, all perfectly synchronized with the visuals.
Meta acknowledges the potential of generative AI while clarifying that it is not intended to replace artists and animators. The chief product officer noted that the company “isn’t ready to release this as a product anytime soon” due to the high costs and lengthy video generation times associated with the tool.
